Abstract

This article aims to analyze a public library named Raimundo de Menezes (Biblioteca Pública Municipal Raimundo de Menezes) and its importance as a cultural and memory center in São Miguel Paulista, at eastern zone of São Paulo, Capital (zona leste de São Paulo). Futhermore, there is a 2024’ events analysis at the library, emphasis on two of them referring to public history: Festival of  Memory  (Festival  da  Memória  –  March)  and  the  Patrimony  Day  (Jornada  do Patrimônio  –  August), as  well  as  a  brief history  about  this  library  and  São Miguel  Paulista. Whose  trajectory  is  based  on  popular movements and  important  buildings,  such  as  the  Chapel  of  São Miguel  Arcanjo  and  the Companhia Nitro Química Brasileira (Nitro Chemistry Brazilian Company), and the efforts of independent collectives to preserve the Patrimony and residents’ memories.
